The Dr. Arabin® Cerclage Pessary (perforated) is a flexible, medical-grade silicone pessary used in pregnancy for the prevention of preterm birth in women with a shortened cervix and/or funnelling seen on transvaginal ultrasound. Placed around the cervix, it supports the lower uterine segment and tilts the cervix towards the sacrum, making the utero-cervical angle more acute and relieving pressure on the internal os — a non-surgical alternative or complement to cervical cerclage.

• Non-surgical: inserted and removed in the clinic, without anaesthesia
• Perforated version: the perforations allow better drainage of vaginal secretions, the most common side effect of pessary treatment
• Soft, foldable silicone: can remain in place for the whole treatment period
• Several sizes: outer diameter 65 or 70 mm, height 17–30 mm, inner diameter 32 or 35 mm — chosen by the gynaecologist
• Also relieves pressure symptoms in mild genital prolapse during pregnancy

How to use

Use as directed by your gynaecologist and in the leaflet. The pessary is fitted by a gynaecologist or trained healthcare professional, usually from the 12th week of pregnancy, and is normally removed at about 37 weeks in asymptomatic patients, or earlier if labour starts, membranes rupture or an infection develops.
